Every Girl Needs Someone

By Sharita J., Founder

Every girl needs a role model.

She needs someone who will encourage her, guide her, and remind her of the value she carries. While that person is often a mother, sometimes it is a mentor, coach, teacher, or another trusted adult who helps shape her journey.

If your daughter forms a meaningful connection with someone outside of your home, it doesn't mean you've failed as a mother. It simply means her circle of influence is growing. Children often connect with people who understand their experiences, speak to their hearts in a unique way, or reflect qualities they aspire to develop.

As I reflect on my own youth, I often find myself wishing I had a mentor. Not because my mother wasn't enough—she was. My mother did the very best she could. She worked three and sometimes four jobs at a time to provide for our family, sacrificing so much so that we could have what we needed. I will always honor her for that.

But even the strongest parents cannot be everything to their children. Sometimes it takes a village. Sometimes it takes someone who will simply walk alongside a young girl, speak life into her, and remind her that she was created with purpose and that her future is not defined by her past.

There were decisions I made that might have looked different if I had another trusted voice pouring into me—someone to remind me of my worth, challenge my thinking, and help me see beyond the moment. Looking back, I don't dwell on my past; I learn from it. I am grateful that I am not the person I once was. I am grateful for growth, for healing, and for transformation. Beauty can come from broken places, and every experience has helped shape the woman I am becoming.

That is why Girls with Purpose is so close to my heart.

Our mission is not to replace parents but to come alongside them by creating a community where girls are seen, encouraged, and empowered. We believe every girl has unique gifts, immeasurable worth, and the potential to make a meaningful impact. Through mentorship and authentic relationships, we hope to be part of the village that helps each girl discover the confidence to walk in her purpose and become all she was created to be.

Because relationships matter more than comparison. Every girl deserves someone who believes in her until she learns to believe in herself.
